Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested around 500 Indian fishermen and 32 trawlers inside Bangladeshi maritime boundary in Patuakhali on Sunday.
Navy patrol team spotted the fishing boats in Chalitabunia and Moudubi area Kalapara upazila adjacent to the Bay of Bengal coastal area, said police.
The arrestees were taken to a coast guard station near Payra port area.
Contingent Commander of Coast Guard near Payra port area Md. Rejaul Karim confirmed Barta24.com about the arrest.
“The reason behind illegal entry of Indian fishermen in Bangladesh territory could not be known immediately. Coast Guard already informed high officials about the issue,” the official said.
