The High Court has issued a prohibition on using titles such as doctor or barrister in front of lower court judge or magistrates’ names.
The bench of Justice M. Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman gave the order on Sunday.
Assistant Attorney General Md Yousuf Mahmud Morshed, who was present at the court, said that the order was given when a lawyer moved the HC against an order by Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 Judge Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman.
“The court saw that the title doctor was being used as a prefix of the judge’s name and gave the order on its own,” he said.
He added that the bench said, “You cannot use titles in front of a lower court judge or magistrate’s name.”
