Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen informed that Malaysia may begin the process of taking workers from Bangladesh from next August.
Abdul Momen informed that ‘In the meeting with Malaysian foreign minister it was discussed about the labor market in Malaysia. Two countries are now working together about the labor market.’
On Sunday(July7) evening after the foreign ministers level meeting between the two countries concluded he told all these.
The meeting held at the State Guest House Padma, Bangladesh foreign minister AK Abdul Momen and Malaysian foreign minister Saifuddin bin Abdullah represented their respective countries.
Malaysian foreign minister Saifuddin bin Abdullah said that, “Bangladeshi workers greatly contributed for the development of Malaysia. Discussion is going on to resume the import of workers from Bangladesh. How their salaries will be fixed it is also under discussion,’ he informed.
Saifuddin bin Abdullah could not give any specific date when asked to know the exact date of resuming the process of labor import. He replied that the concerned ministries will decide.
In the meeting of the foreign ministers Bangladesh State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed was also present.
It may be mentioned here that Malaysia stopped importing workers from Bangladesh in 2009. In 2012 a deal was signed between the two countries to import workers at G 2 G level. Though Malaysia gave assurance to import five lakh labors from Bangladesh, they took only 8 thousand workers in two and half years.
However, a large number of people go to Malaysia illegally by sea. In the month of May in 2015 when some mass graves were discovered in Thailand and Malaysia there was hue and cry around the world describing it as an act of cruelty and gross violation human rights. Next Malaysia proposed to import workers through private channels.
