At least 592 incidents of rape have occurred across Bangladesh in the last six months, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad said in a report.
BMP, a women-led organization working to protect women's rights, revealed that these incidents occurred till June 30.
According to the organization, a total of 697 rape incidents were reported in 2018 and such offense stood 592 within six months in this year.
The rate is mounted alarmingly this year. A total of 113 gang rape incidents are reported in the last six month which was 182 in numbers in 2018.
Ayesha Khanam, President, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad told about the report to Barta24.com
She said: “The report was prepared by compiling the news published in 14 dailies from January to June.”
Rape offenses are getting high in last months and it is awful for women and child protection and human rights, she added.
Ayesha Khanam said: “Though we have strict law against such offenses, however, the rate is mounting. Lack of law enactments, political influences are key reasons behind the increase of such offenses.”
She also emphasized on social awareness to lessen such barbaric offences.
