Want of diversified goods affecting the export size

From Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan: Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has admitted that due to want of diversified goods the export size is not becoming large.

He said that, ‘With the object of diversification in textile sector high priced goods are being produced now for increasing export.’

On Monday (July 8) evening in third session of Jatiya Sangsad, in reply to question of treasury bench member M Abdul Latif, the Minister told these. Earlier the day’s business began with the Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury in the chair.

Commerce Minister informed the House that under the program of one product one district has been taken up to patronize famous products of the districts or area to enter the export market. To improve the quality of products the marginal farmers are being given training. To keep the quality of exportable goods intact through packaging and preservation methods a memorandum of understating was signed with Bangladesh Science and Industrial research council. It will help to conduct research on the exportable goods on area basis.

In reply to a question of treasury bench member Didarul Alam, the Minister said, ’the export trade of the country is not limited within few products. In 1972-73 fiscal year 348 million dollars were earned by exporting 25 varieties of goods in 68 countries. That export trade after becoming large size in 2017-18 fiscal an amount of 41007.87 million dollar was earned by exporting 744 varieties of goods in 202 countries. But all sectors can not contribute equally in export trade. Of the total income from export in 2018-19 (from July to May) 95.10 percent was earned by exporting nit and oven garments, jute and jute goods, home textile, leather and leather goods, foot wear, frozen food, ship etc.
