Prime Minister condoles the death of Rushema Begum in Jatiya Sangsad

Jatiya Sangsad unanimously adopted a condolence motion expressing profound grief at the sad demise of ruling party lawmaker Rushema Begum (women seat-34) on Wednesday (July 10).

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the condolence motion in the House at the beginning of the 3rd session of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad.

Rushema  Begum breathed her last around 11:35pm at the cardiac unit of Faridpur Diabetic Medical College Hospital on Tuesday (July 9) at the age of 85.

After the national parliament elections on December 30, 2018, she was nominated by the ruling Awami League as a women reserve seat from Faridpur and took oath on February 20.

Rushema Begum, wife of Bangabandhu’s close associate Imam Uddin Ahmed who also was Awami League President of Faridpur and former parliamentarian from 1970 to 1973.

Late Imamuddin Ahmed who was also killed in a road crash in 2007 actively participated in the great Liberation War in 1971.

Rushema, was born on January 2, 1936 at Faridpur and took up professions of teaching at different institutions. At the last stage of her teaching career she had been Head Mistress of Faridpur Ishan Girls’ High School.

Taking part in the condolence motion, Parliament Leader and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Rushema Begum was a dedicated women leader and she played a pivotal role in women development. Sheikh Hasina also memorized many events with late Rushema Begum with whom she had personal attachments.

The Prime Minister  sought eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her deep sympathy to her bereaved family members.

Expressing deep shock at the death of Rushema Begum, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Raushon Ershad said Rushema Begum was an outstanding personality, who worked for the welfare of the people and country’s socio-economic development.

Treasury bench lawmakers Begum Matia Chowdhury, Shajahan Khan, Tofail Ahmed, Mohammed Nasim and Amir Hossain Amu, and opposition chief whip Moshiur Rahman Ranga, among others, took part in the condolence motion.

A munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed soul was offered in the House. Treasury bench lawmaker Hafez Ruhul Amin Madani of Mymensingh-7 conducted the munajat.

Earlier, the members of the House also stood up and observed a one-minute solemn silence to pay respect to the memories of the deceased.
