Sea pollution is a very big threat for the developing countries

Dhaka: Minister for Forests, Environment and Climatic change affairs Md. Shahab Uddin said that the sea pollution is a very big threat for the developing countries.

He said that the sea pollution is also a big threat for the South-Asian developing countries. Particularly its impact is greatly observed in the coastal areas. According to the scientists due to adverse effect of the pollution both the sea and coastal areas are going to be destroyed gradually, he said. 

The Minister told these while speaking as the chief guest on Friday (July 12) at the ‘National Workshop of London Protocol’ held at hotel Sonargaon.

In terms of population Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka is in the fifth place. The people of these countries are mostly dependent on nature for their livelihood because these countries are hugely populated having less income and less development indicator. As a result the sea is being polluted mostly which might have adverse impact in the long run.  

The Minister said that oil- chemical pollution, wastes, wastes originated from agriculture, solid wastes carried through drains and sewerage are the main reasons of sea pollution in South -Asia. The environment of Bangladesh is facing more threat because the level of sea pollution is very high here. Due to soil and water the condition of this country sea is in danger.   

Deputy Minister for Forests, Environment and Climatic change affairs Habibun Nahar said that there are certain invisible pollution which cannot be felt by the coastal people. In many cases fishes are poisoned to death in the water bodies, which is a reason for serious pollution. When this poisoned water enters in the Sundarbans then the fish, animal become sick. This problem is created by human. Many creatures of the Sundarbans live on sweet water but in many areas this sweet water is being reserved in the shrimp enclosures which are matters of serious concern.  

The welcome address was given by Director General of SEKAP Dr. Abash Basir.  Among others the secretary of the ministry Abdullah Al Mohsin was present in the function.
