Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI), the sole authority to detect all kinds of contamination including anti-biotics in the pasteurized and unpasteurized packaged milk available in the market. In spite of the fact the government authority is giving clean cheats to these products. Allegations have arisen that BSTI has been giving certificates of purity to these products produced by Pran, Milk Vita and Aarong.

The concerned alleged that there is no such equipment in the laboratory of BSTI. Even they did never conduct such tests so far.

Immediate past director of Biomedical Research Center of Dhaka University (DU) Professor ABM Faruq alleged to bartatwentyfour.com that,’ BSTI has claimed that the pasteurized and unpasteurized milks available in the market do not contain any hazardous element. But what is the basis of this comment? So far I know they have no ability to make these tests.’

Admitting the comments of this DU professor, Assistant director of BSTI Monotosh Das told bartatwentyfour.com that really BSTI has no such ability to make these tests. They are giving certificates on the basis of present capability. However we have started to work in order to achieve the ability. BSTI would soon be able to do the varied tests of these sensitive products.

In recent tests carried on in the Biomedical Research center of DU, the presence of anti-biotics were found in the packaged milks of five producers including Pran, Milk Vita and Aarong. The anti-biotics found in the milk are Oxytetracycline, Enrofloxacin, Ciprofloxacin and Levofloxacin. However BSTI claimed that this research is not correct.

BSTI informed that nothing wrong or alarming substance was found after examining the 14 brands of 18 varieties of pasteurized milk available in the market. So there is no bar to drink these milks. The Biomedical Research center of DU published their reports on July 13 after researching for the second time. The reports said that there are presence of antibiotics of five brands of milks of the producers including Pran, Milk Vita and Aarong. It may be mentioned here that anti-biotics are used for treatment of the diseases in human body.
