Three attacked by dengue in every one hour in the capital

Dhaka: In the current year so far 5617 people have been attacked by dengue fever. Dengue has broken out almost in an epidemic form like the past years. During last 24 hours 71 people including children were caught by dengue fever. So the estimate is on an average three in every one hour.

The physicians though do not term it as ‘epidemic’ but they termed it as unusual.

After physical visit it was found that a minor kid Farhan who just learnt to speak has been attacked by dengue and now under treatment at a private hospital in the capital for the last seven days. He is under going various tests in every hour. Saline in IV mode is running continuously. As his platelet has come down so blood is being infused.

Farhan’s father is an expatriate. Farhan’s mother cannot accept this suffering of her small kid. Not only Farhan but such hazards are also being faced by olds and children abound.

According to the sources of Health directorate about 4438 dengue patients are now admitted in several hospitals of the capital. About 3532 patients were admitted in June. It means the severity of dengue has spread across the capital.

ICDDR, Bangladesh said that if any person is attacked by dengue second time then his case might be complicated. As the disease was less in the last year so it will be severe this year usually.

Former Dean of Medicine faculty of BSMMU Dr. ABM Abdullah told barta twentyfour.com,’The severity of dengue is more terrifying this year. However it did not turn into epidemic. Everyday the dengue patients are coming to hospital. However the number is bigger this year. We are getting patients who have been attacked for second time even for third time.’ He described the situation as worrying.

On the other hand the DSCC Mayor Sayed Khokon said that, ‘Though the number of dengue patients is increasing but it did not reach to a situation beyond control. It is still under control.’

As the disease originates from mosquito bite, they are taking all out measures to stop the breeding of Aedes. Everybody must be cautious so that water does not become stagnant around or inside the residence.
