A student of the department of Environmental Science of Jahangir Nagar University Nahin Mostofa Niloy claimed that there is strong presence of a harmful ‘Fluorescent whitening agent’ in all brands of detergent available in the market.
Environmental Science department teacher, Professor Dr. Shafi was the supervisor of Niloy in the research work financed by UGC.
Niloy claimed that that fluorescent whitening agent plays an important role in making cancer germ in human body. Detergent used for brightening the dresses help to develop allergy, skin disease, change of jinn and kidney disease. Even this chemical reacting with ultra violet ray can help creating germ of cancer.
This young researcher Niloy has informed Barta24.com that the presence of fluorescent whitening agent in detergent was determined by Spectrophotometer and 3D Excitation Emission Matrix.
In the research paper Niloy mentioned that the harmful fluorescent whitening agent is not purifiable in the final water purification machine. What is matter of concern is that the presence of this harmful substance was found in the water of Jahangir Nagar University Lake and even in the flowing water of mighty Padma. As the fluorescent whitening agent it is also used in tinolpol used for brightening the dresses. These substances are much used in the household dress cleaning purpose and in the garment factories in large scale for brightening dresses. After use of this harmful substance it get mixed with the water of canals, rivers and lakes.
Researcher Niloy told Barta24.com that, ‘The research was a UGC financing project and it was a part of my thesis. I have worked with more than 10 brands of detergent available in the market. I do not like to disclose the names of the companies. If any government agency wants it from me then I will give the information about my research.
