PM stresses on working in coordination to tackle Dengue

Awami League president and the Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina has called upon all to come forward and work in coordination with the concerned government departments to tackle deadly dengue which has by now has spread across the country.

On Tuesday (July 30) she made this call from London through teleconferencing. On the eve of a meeting in the Awami League office at Bangabandhu avenue she made the phone call to Awami League general secretary and Bridges Minister Obaidul Kader who was about to discuss with the party activists about the ways and means to tackle dengue.

Sheikh Hasina said that, ‘When dengue broke out first it was within Dhaka city. But gradually it is spreading across the country. Those who are going to their native homes to celebrate Eid festival, they can also be carrier of this dengue fever. So every body should be careful about it. I call upon all to keep your houses and workplaces neat and clean.’

Prime Minister said that, ‘You must be careful and attentive that flower Vass, abandoned utensils and pot holes cannot be kept filled up with water or rain water. You must be checking your dress so that Aedes cannot stay there. She directed the two mayors to look about the matter so that Aedes cannot make use of the rain water for breeding. She also called upon the Awami League workers to engage their mite in cleaning program.

Pointing to the rumors of requiring human head in Padma Bridge and also mass beating she said, ‘I would tell my countrymen that don’t put your ear to rumors. If you doubt any body then hand him over to police. I will also tell the media people not to circulate wrong information for misleading the people.’

Prime Minister said, ‘Please do not spread rumor and kill people by taking law in your own hand. Those who are spreading rumors and circulating misinformation will have to face legal measures.’

Regarding flood situation she said that the ministry in charge of disaster management and relief is working to manage and share the woes of the flood affected people. Moreover she called upon the Awami League workers to help the flood affected people.

Sheikh Hasina said that to save the erosion and to get relief from flood the government has already arranged river dredging work. If the capacity of the river to contain more water then the trend of river erosion and flood will come down, she said. In dry season the shortage of water will also be met from the dredged place when it will be able to reserve more water.

To tackle dengue, party secretary and Bridges Minister Obaidul Kader has announced a three day cleanliness program in a function on dengue tackling in the all the wards of Dhaka city. As part of this program on Wednesday (July 31) from morning 11 to noon 1, on Friday from morning 10 to noon 12 and on Saturday from morning 10 to noon 1, the cleanliness drive will be conducted.

In the function DSCC mayor Saiyed Khokon, DNCC mayor Atikul Islam, Joint secretary of the party AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former food minister Qamrul Islam, and Dhaka South city Awami League general secretary Shahe Alam Murad were also present .
