A seven member committee to test the efficacy of mosquito killing insecticide and also the health risk in using it has been formed on behalf of the Ministry of LGRD & Cooperatives on Sunday (August 4).
The committee headed by the Additional Secretary (City Development), of the Local Government Ministry, the Chief Health officers of North and South City Corporations, Chief Chemist (Plant protection wing) of Agriculture directorate, Technical Adviser of Health Education bureau, a Representative of Disease control and Research Institute being the members the committee was formed.
The Deputy Secretary (City Corporation -1) of Local Government and Officer in Charge (Additional Charge) Dhaka Mosquito elimination directorate has been made the member secretary.
The terms of reference of the committee has been told as to ensure the selection of appropriate insecticide (Larvicide and Adulticide), to determine the correct quantity level and to get it tests the quality of the insecticide through appropriate authority. The committee is to further ensure that the larvicide and adulticide would not harm the human body, other insects--fish and water borne insects and overall it will not create any adverse impact on the environment. The committee can increase or reduce the number of the members of the committee if it feels.
The formation of the committee was informed by a notification of LGRD & Cooperatives Ministry signed by Deputy Secretary Md. Emdadul Haque Chowdhury.
