Bilateral meeting between two foreign ministers begins at Jamuna

The high-profile meeting between two foreign ministers of friendly neighboring countries has begun in the state guest house Jamuna on Tuesday morning (August 20).

Bangladesh foreign minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen and Indian External Affairs minister S. Jaishankar are leading their respective countries at the meeting. Before the formal meeting the two foreign ministers held close door exclusive talks.

Earlier visiting Indian foreign minister S. Jaishankar informed the journalists that several bilateral matters will be discussed between the two foreign ministers level meeting but no deal or agreement will be signed.

The matters of illegal migration and intrusion, connectivity, security, international terrorism, Kashmir issue, Rohingya crisis and long pending sharing of common rivers' water including Teesta are likely to be discussed. Jaishankar is likely to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to New Delhi on October 2 to participate in the Indian chapter of World Economic Forum.

During her visit to New Delhi there is likely to be a bilateral meeting with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Jaishnakar will return to his country on Wednesday (August 21).
