A 26-year old youth stabbed to death while resisting a rape attempt on his niece and the attacker killed in a mob beating by locals at Amirpur village in Sadar Upazila of Chuadanga early Saturday.
The youth who was stabbed to death was identified as Hasan Ali, 26, son of Hamidul Islam of the area while the criminal killed in mob lynching was identified as Akbar Ali of Damurhuda Upazila.
Chuadanga Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge confirmed Barta24.com about the incident and deaths.
He said: “Akbar Ali entered the house of Hamidul Islam at dawn and attempted to rape her school-going granddaughter.”
Hearing scream of the schoolgirl, family members rushed to her room when Akbar stabbed them indiscriminately, leaving her uncle Hasan dead on the spot, the girl and her grandfather Hamidul injured.
Villagers also rushed to Hamidul’s house and caught Akbar Ali while he was trying to flee. Locals beat Akbar mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police rescued severely injured Hasan, Hamidul and the girl and took them to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where Hasan succumbed to his injuries at 8 am.
Hamidul was referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital while the girl was sent home after primary treatment Chuadanga Sadar Hospital sources said.
