MoU signed between NWPGCL and China’s CMC for renewable power

Dhaka: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between North West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL) and CMC of China to generate 500 MW of power from wind and solar sources.

On Tuesday (August 27) night an agreement was signed at Hotel Intercontinental in this connection.

In the function of agreement signing Prime Minister’s Power, Energy Mineral resources adviser Dr. Towfiq -e- Ilahi Chowdhwdhury BB said that to set up solar power stations it requires much land. For that reason we are to think that how pisciculture, cattle farm and crop cultivation can be done simultaneously at the same venue. If it can be done then the renewable energy will be expanded.

The function was also addressed by Senior Secretary of power division Dr. Ahmed Kaikaus and Chairman of Power Development Board (PDB) Khaled Mahmood.

Under the agreement a renewable power company will be formed with joint ownership titled Bangladesh –China Power Company. The company will jointly set up a power plant for producing 500 MW of renewable power stations. Of it 50 MW of power will be generated from wind. The 450 MW will be generated from solar power at Sirajganj and Nilphamary.

According to the plan of the government a target has been fixed to produce 6 thousand MW of power to be generated from renewable sources within 2041. During last 10 years only 38 MW of power was produced from solar sources.
