Biman incurring loss for hired faulty aircrafts

National flag carrier Bangladesh Biman hired two 777-200 model aircrafts from Egypt Aircraft in March of 2014 to bring speed in the flight schedule. But those aircrafts developed faults after some days. It was again allowed flying after repairing. But again faults were detected. Those two were aircrafts have been sitting idle for a long time. Biman is to pay Taka 5 crore as rent money every month for the uneven contract. Parliamentary Standing Committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry wanted to know the about the details of this sort of unequal contract including the identity of the responsible persons.

These matters were discussed in the meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the concerned ministry held at the Sangsad Bhavan on Wednesday (August28). Besides, the proposal of checking the present and former MPs in a separate place at the airport was also turned down by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The authority said that according to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) there is no scope to give any special treatment to any body for the sake of security.

After the meeting the president of the Parliamentary Standing Committee RAM Obaidul Moktadir Chwodhury told barta24.com that the committee has decided to know the identity of the persons involved with the uneven contract. They must give it. They are bound to give.

Besides, the committee wanted to know the identity of the company involved with the refurbishment of Hotel Intercontinental including the details of the tendering process.

It was recommended in the meeting to submit a work plan to include the tourism spots of Dhaka city as it has been considered as a city of tourism.

It was further recommended to obtain necessary suggestions from the archeological department to make Bangladesh more attractive to the tourists.

It was disclosed in the meeting that the matter of land allotment to Bangladesh Porjaytan Corporation for building exclusive eco-tourism zone near Payira deep sea port is under process. It was mentioned in the meeting that BUET is studying the feasibility of setting up tourism zone in the periphery of the Sundarbans.

The meeting chaired by RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chwodhury was attended by State Minister for Civil Aviation & Tourism Md. Mahbub Ali, Engineer Mosharraf Hossain MP, Kazi Feroz Rashid MP, Ashequllah Rafiq MP and Syeda Rubina Akhtar.

Secretary of the concerned ministry, chairman of Tourism Corporation and officials of the ministry and Jatyio Sangsad secretariat.
