Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified their vigilance on the border outposts of six upazillas after the publication of the final list of National Registration of Citizenship (NRC) in the eastern Indian state of Assam.

Bangladesh has main connection with Assam at Zokiganj upazilla point of Sylhet. Besides, Jaintapur, Goainghat, Bianibazar, Companyganj and Kanaighat upazillas have also borders with India.

BGB informed that the regular patrolling has been increased than before. Locals have been told to remain alert. Particularly the farmers have been asked to inform the BGB if any unnatural thing can be seen at the bordering area. However, the BGB think that there is nothing to be worried at this moment about the impact of NRC.

BGB -19 (Zokiganj) Director Lt. Col. Sayeed Hassan said that after the primary publication of NRC last year the BGB has been kept on alert at the directives of Head Quarters. On Saturday they were again alerted verbally. Accordingly the vigilance has been intensified at the borders.

The battalion commander of BGB -48 Lt. Col. Ahmed Yusuf Zamil said that the vigilance at all six points with Assam have been intensified. BGB is ready to resist any kind of push- in or illegal infiltration in Bangladesh territory.

However, the deputy commissioner of Sylhet M. Kazi Emdadul Islam did not agree to make comments on it.

It is to be mentioned here that 19 lakh inhabitants of Assam lost Indian citizenship in the final list of NRC published on Saturday (August 31).
