'Nothing to worry as India assured us' – Obaidul Kader

General Secretary of Awami League commented that there is nothing to be worried about National Registration of Citizens (NRC) of Assam as Indiahas assured us that it is their internal matter.

Obaidul Kader said that after 1971 no Bangladeshi had gone to India. So there is nothing to worry. Because it will take time to reach a decision after long legal procedures. So we are to take decision after which stage it reaches.  

He told all these in a press conference held on Tuesday (Sept.3) afternoon at the Dhanmondi office of the Awami League president.

Before press meet a meeting of the secretarial committee was held. In the meeting the matter of the party rebels in the last upazilla election, to nominate a candidate for the Rangpur -3 and about the latest political situation in the country were discussed.

Obaidul Kader said that as August was the month of mourning so we kept some decisions pending for implementation. We took decisions for punishing the rebel candidates and their supporters within the party. We will go for implementing the decisions from next September 8.  

He informed that the meeting of next working committee is supposed to be held on September 14 where we will take necessary decisions and will discuss the organizational matters. After the working committee meeting we will begin countrywide organizational tours. 

In reply to a question that whether the national conference of the party will be held in October Obaidul Kader said, that might be decided in the working committee meeting. We are always ready for holding national conference. When our leader gives decision, the conference will be held. 

Among others Awami League joint secretary general Mahboob Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Abdur Rahman, Organizing secretary BM Mojammel Haque, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Muhibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel, AKM Enamul Haque Shamim were also present in the press conference.
