Administration recovers huge weapons from Ngo SHED in Ukhia

Cox’s Bazaar: Ukhia Upazilla administration has recovered huge quantity of country made weapons from the office cum go –down of Ngo SHED working in Rohingya camp in Ukhia. 

On Thursday (September 5) noon the raid was conducted at SHED office at Malbhita.

The raid was led by Assistant Commissioner of Land and Executive Magistrate Fakhrul Islam. During the raid about 7400 pieces of various kinds of country made weapons were recovered. 

The recovered weapons included weeding hook, spade, shovel, spear, stick and bat. The confiscated weapons are now kept in the office of Assistant Commissioner of Land.

However SHED could no show any document in favor of these weapons. On behalf of the Ngo it was informed that financed by IOM the agricultural equipments were procured for free distribution among the ultra poor people of the Raj Palong and Jalia Palong unions of Ukhia.

In recent times about 600 hundred country made weapons were manufactured from a blacksmith’s factory located near Bhalukia road of Kotbazar of Ukhia. One Ngo MUKTI of Cox’s Bazaar financed for these weapons. There was a hue and cry across the country on it. In this context six projects of MUKTI were temporarily suspended on behalf of Ngo bureau.  

Locals informed that these Ngos are involved in anti-state activities. For this reason the weapons are being distributed among the Rohingyas.

AC Land Fakhrul Islam said that these weapons were recovered from the office of Ngo SHED.   

UNO of Ukhia Nikaruzzaman Robin Chowdhury said that these weapons were not meant for the Rohingyas but for the host community. The documents of SHED are being scrutinized.
