Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) has arrested six persons from the regional passport office located in Jalkuri area of Siddhirganj, Narayanganj. They were arrested from three shops near the passport office.
Rab Company Commander Mahiuddn Farooqi has confirmed barta24.com that six were arrested through carrying raids till night of Wednesday (Sept.11).
Rab informed that the fraud ring used to supply birth certificate to the Rohingyas after manufacturing those from the different city corporations and union parishads of the country in exchange of money ranging from Taka 5 thousand to Taka 10 thousand. Next when they applied for passport as their birth information was tallied with the data base of the passport office they got the passports.
Giving this false information about 13 to 14 Rohingyas have taken birth certificates so far. The persons detained are Fazlul Karim, 33 of Narayanganj, Saiful Islam, 24, Azim Hosain, 26, Mamun Mia 35, of Netrokona, Moinuddin, 38 and Jahangir , 36 of Dhaka.
During the raid after confiscating their computer and laptop in the hard disks, soft copies of 25 thousand birth certificates and some hard copies of birth certificates were recovered.
