BNP Standing Committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has said that the Awami League government has destroyed every organs of the state through politicisation.

Speaking at a discussion in the capital on Saturday (Sept 28), he also said that corruption has spread to every level of the government due to the misrule of the present regime.

“Casinos have been established in the country though they are illegal. It (establishment of casinos) was impossible without the cooperation of the government and administration,” he said.

The discussion was organised at the National Press Club to mark the third death anniversary of BNP cabinet minister and Standing Committee member Hannan Shah.

Khandaker Mosharraf said, “[Awami League General Secretary] Obaidul Quader has termed ‘pilferage’ the corruption in mega projects. These petty thieves would not dare to pilfer without the support of the big thieves.”

He described the corruption exposed in the ongoing drives of the law enforcers as tip of the iceberg compared to the size of the corruption and irregularities taking place in the country.

“Anti-corruption purge only at lower lever won’t yield any result. Such purge is more necessary at higher level. Otherwise, people will consider the ongoing drives flaunts,” the BNP leader said.

Claiming that the present government is not elected by the people, he said “Democracy has to be freed for the freedom of the country. And [BNP chief] Khaleda Zia has to be freed for the freedom of democracy.”

BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Nazrul Islam Khan, and Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon also spoke at the discussion, among others.
