Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has dismissed the news on government’s move to amend the Road Transport Act-2018 as rumours.

“Transparency International Bangladesh has expressed its concern over the matter (reported amendment) though the ministry has taken no initiative to amend the law,” he said on Sunday.

The minister was talking to reporters during a visit to an underpass project on the Airport Road in the capital.

To a question on the whereabouts of Jubo League Dhaka South president Ismail Hossain Chowdhry Samrat, accused kingpin in casino operation, he said the home minister is the authority to talk on the matter.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Saturday to newsmen that everyone can know shortly whether Samrat has been arrested or not.

Obaidul Quader said 70 percent work of the underpass near Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment School and College has already been completed.

He said the deadline for completion of the work is June next year but Bangladesh Army, which are implementing the Tk 570 million project, will be able to finish the work by December this year.

The government undertook the project after two students of the educational institution were killed in a road crash near the school last year, triggering fury among students and ordinary people.
