Jatiyo Party nominated Rahgir Al Mahi Saad Ershad was elected to Jatiyo Sangsad (JS) bagging huge number of votes in Rangpur-3 bye elections held on Saturday (Oct. 5). He polled 58 thousand 878 votes.
Returning officer GM Shatabuddin after counting the votes cast through EVM announced the unofficial result in the evening of Saturday (Oct.5).
Saad fought against as many as five rival candidates with party symbol ‘Plough’including that of BNP nominated candidate Reeta Rahman who polled only 16947 votes as the nearest rival. Ershad’s nephew Makbul Hossain Shahriyar Asif got 14984 votes who was earlier expelled from Jatiyo party while Ershad was alive.
It may be mentioned here that Awami League did not field any candidate in this bye poll.
The seat fell vacant after former military ruler H.M. Ershad died on last July 14.
