A Dhaka court has remanded two accused – Amit Saha and Hossain Mohammad Toha – into police custody for five days each for interrogation in the case filed over the murder of BUET student Abrar Fahad.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari granted the remand after DB police Inspector Md Wahiduzzaman produced them before the court on Friday (Oct 11) with a 10-day remand plea for each.

Toha has been named in the first information report (FIR) in the case while Amit, the legal affairs deputy secretary of the BUET unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, is an unnamed accused and was arrested on Thursday.

The students agitating for the trial of Abrar killers were alleging that Amit was dropped from the FIR deliberately, prompting police to come up with a statement that everyone having link with the murder will be brought to book.

Seventeen people, mostly leaders and activists of the BUET unit of Chhatra League, the student front of the ruling Awami League, have so far been arrested in the case.

Chhatra League leaders and activists allegedly beat Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department, to death on Oct 7 over a Facebook post.

Abrar’s father filed a case accusing 19 BCL leaders and activists of the murder while the central committee of the student front expelled 11 of them.
