The mother of expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat has appealed to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for his release claiming that he was not involved in illegal casino operation.

'You are an affectionate mother, mother of humanity. Samrat is like your son. He is not an intruder in your organisation. Please, release my son and arrange his medical treatment,' Sayera Khatun said at a press conference on Sunday (Oct 13).

Samrat's sister Farhana Chowdhury read out the written speech on behalf of Sayera Khatun at the press meet held at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the capital.

Claiming that the recovery of alcohol, yaba and a firearm from his office was stage-managed, Sayera Khatun said, consuming alcohol invite death for him as he underwent a bypass surgery and had heart valves transplanted.

'He’ll never consume alcohol knowingly. He was not in the office for 10 days before being arrested. His office was unprotected. He was staying outside for his sickness. Alcohol, yaba or pistol nothing was there in his office,' she said.

Samrat, former president of Dhaka South unit of Jubo League, the youth front of the Awami League, was arrested for his alleged involvement in the operation of illegal casinos and is now serving a jail term for violation of wildlife law.

The Rapid Action Battalion arrested him from Chauddagram in Cumilla on Oct 6. The crime busting agency later conducted a raid on his office in the capital when they seized 1,160 pieces of Yaba, 19 bottles of foreign liquor, a Chinese pistol, five rounds of bullet and two skins of Kangaroos.

Sayera Khatun said Samrat is not involved in running any club in the capital and claimed that he has been subjected to ‘political and personal vengeance’.

She appealed to the prime minister to release Samrat forgiving his faults and arrange better medical treatment.
