Dhaka: Demanding the trial of killing of Abrar Fahad, the Buet students would again go for movement from tomorrow (Tuesday). They informed that though the University administration has accepted their 5- point demands but they would carry on the movement till their 10 point demands are met.

The agitating students informed that the implementation of 10 -point demands is still not met in full. We will not return to our home till the trial of Abrar killing is complete. We will observe our program to fulfill our demand through holding rally, procession and slogans.

A Buet student Tithi informed barta24.com that though there is some visible progress in the fulfillment of our demands it do not mean that the demands are already met in full. Though we were told to carry on cleansing drive in all the residential halls of the Buet but it is still to be done at Dr. M.A. Rashid hall. Moreover the administration did not assure us the matter what steps the administration will take if the driven out elements come back to halls.

Speaking on the matter Buet VC Dr. Saiful Islam told barta24.com that we are trying to contact them in various ways. We are very much sincere and have accepted their demands. I am not a politician so it is very much difficult to ban politics on the campus. Still accepting their demands I have banned politics on the campus. I met the Prime Minister yesterday (Saturday) who assured me to extend all kinds of cooperation to restore congenial atmosphere on the campus. I think that the students have understood that both the government and University authority are sincere.

The VC said that we like to resume the academic activities soon. All the problems are long standing so it cannot be met within a day. I will seat with them time and again. I want their cooperation to bring back academic atmosphere at an earliest.

The students informed that there are seven representatives in seven halls which are now forcibly occupied by the ruling party backed students. After the ban of politics on the campus we will elect one representative in each hall who will look after our rights and welfare.

Earlier on Saturday accepting the demands of the students the University authority published a notification. The accepted demands are to provide financial help to Abrar’s family, the temporary expulsion of the accused 19 students, banning of student politics and driving out the non-students from the halls, to build an on line platform to stop tortures on the students and fixing of CCTV around the halls.

However the agitating students honoring the appeal of the VC, they relaxed the movement for October 13 and 14 to facilitate the entry examination in Buet.

The 10 point demands are as follows:-

1. Highest punishment shall have to be ensured by identifying them through CCTV footage and interrogation.

2. The University administration shall ensure life long expulsion from the University by identifying them through CCTV footage. The expulsion shall take effect fro October 11, 2019’

3. During the case proceedings all expenditures of conducting the case and also compensation to Abrar’s family shall have to bear by University administration.

4. The filed case shall have to be tried by Speedy Trial Tribunal within a short time. For this the University authority will take necessary steps. The Buet authority must actively observe the case proceedings and would give updates to the students regularly.

5. Official notice shall be served with the copy of charge –sheet.

6. Organizational politics shall have to be banned on the campus. Because there has been a reign of terror in the Buet halls under the banner of political organizations. The general students were tortured both mentally and physically for a long time in the name of forcible participation of political parties program, to take part in the procession and rallies against the will of the students.  So within next seven days (Oct.15) all political activities shall have to be banned permanently.

7. The VC shall have to explain the reasons physically coming on the campus by 2 P.M. today (Monday) that why he did take so much time to be present on the place of occurrence and followed by misbehaver with the students.

8. Ragging shall have to be banned permanently in the Buet halls and also on the campus. Similarly the studentship of some branded terrorist students of Shuharwrdy hall and Ahsanulla hall who were involved with some heinous activities shall have to be cancelled from by 5 P.M. of October 11 of 2019.

9. A new on line plat form for all round observation of the Buet affairs regularly and taking measures accordingly shall have to be ensured. Sufficient number CCTV shall have to be installed in the halls and on the campus.

10. The provost of Sher –e- Bangla hall shall have to be withdrawn immediately with effect from October 11, 2019 afternoon for his total failure to ensure welfare of the students and his attitude of ignoring the tragic incident of Abrar.

It may be mentioned here that on the night October 6 Abrar Fahad, a resident student of Sher-e- Bangla hall was beaten to death in room no. 2011. Abrar was a student of second year of Electric and Electronic Engineering (batch 17) of Buet.
