FIFA president calls on PM

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has made a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the latter’s office in the capital.

At the meeting held at Shimul Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday (Oct 17) morning, Sheikh Hasina highlighted the present government’s different initiatives for the promotion of football.

The FIFA president lauded the development of the sport in Bangladesh.

Infantino presented the prime minister with a blue jersey having number 10 and her name on it. Sheikh Hasina reciprocated by presenting Infantino with a Bangladesh jersey having his name on it.

Bangladesh Football Federation President Kazi Salahuddin was present during the meeting.

Infantino is scheduled to join a press conference at Pan Pacific Sonargaon at 2:20pm on Thursday and leave Bangladesh for Laos around 5pm.

The FIFA president has launched his goodwill visit to Asia this month through the tour to Lebanon. Later he went to North Korean capital Pyongyang where he enjoyed a friendly match between the two Koreas.

Before coming to Bangladesh on Thursday (Oct 17), Infantino visited Mongolia.

Earlier, two other FIFA presidents Joao Havelange and Sepp Blatter visited Bangladesh. Havelange came to Bangladesh in 1980 and Blatter in 2006 and 2012.
