Elderly woman killed in Laxmipur

Body of an elderly woman has been recovered as wrapped in a sack from an orchard of betel nut plants in Keroa village under Raipur of Laxmipur on Thursday (October 17).

The deceased is identified as Mafuza Begum, 70, wife of late Bahar Ullah, a former constable. They have two sons.

Two – Zakir Hossain and Rakib Hossain, local tailors, have reportedly been arrested following the incident. However, police haven’t confirmed the arrest.

Locals said Mahfuza used to wear jewelry.  She regularly went out to have a walk in the afternoon. She didn’t return home after going for a walk on Wednesday afternoon.

Locals suspect that she might be killed for the jewelries.

Police said the locals notice the signs of dragging sack beside Munshibari in the area.

Following the sign, the police recovered the body in the betel nut orchard,

Later her sons identified her body.

Sub-inspector (investigation) Shipan Barua said she might have been strangulated.

The body was sent to hospital for autopsy and the process of filing a case in this regard was underway, SI Shipan said.
