Four people have been killed in a police-mob clash in Borhanuddin Upazila under Bhola, prompting the authorities to deploy paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to maintain law and order.
BGB spokesperson Shariful Islam told Barta24.com that four platoons of BGB was deployed on Sunday (Oct 20). One of BGB platoons was sent to the spot by helicopter, he said.
Local sources said the clash took place between police and local people over the Facebook comment of a youth. Over a hundred people were also injured in the skirmish.
They said Borhanuddin police detained the youth, Biplob, of Kachia union on Saturday after he made the Facebook comment hurting religious sentiment.
Local people gathered at Borhanuddin High School playground as part of their program announced earlier to protest the comment. The clash occurred during the gathering.
