National Board of Revenue (NBR) has ordered banks to freeze bank accounts of recently expelled Jubo League chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury, his wife Sheikh Sultana Rekha and their three sons.
NBR also asked to freeze bank accounts of their two business firms – Lake View Properties and RAO construction.
NBR made this order in capacity of section-116 of income tax ordinance 1984.
It is said in the letter issued by NBR that no money can be withdrawn or transferred from these accounts.
Earlier, Bangladesh Bank summoned information of all bank accounts in the name of Omar Faruk Chowdhury.
Allegations of taking money for committee formation of judo League and extortion have been emerging against him in the wake of recent drives against corruption and illegal businesses of Jubo League leaders.
He was expelled from the organization on Sunday.
