High Court orders not to arrest or harass Dr. Yunus

The bench Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Khondoker Diliruzzaman of the High Court division ordered not arrest or harass Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus when he will return to country. High Court passed the order in view of a writ petition filed by Dr. Md. Yunus’s brother Muhammad Ibrahim on Monday(Oct.28).

Dr. Yunus when he will return to country he will have to surrender in the court by November 7. The Court passed the order so that during this time he does not face arrest or any harassment.

Senior lawyer Barrister Rokonuddin Mahmud did the hearing in favor of the writ. Barrister Mostafizur Rahman assisted him. The state was represented was deputy Attorney General Md. Saifuddin Khaled.

It is learnt that the Grameen Communications founded by Dr. Muhammad Yunus sacked some employees from service when they wanted to form trade union. Three affected workers filed a suit in the 3rd labor court of Dhaka against Dr. Yunus, Managing Director of Grameen Communications Naznin Sultana and deputy general manager Khondoker Abu Abedin. The accused were supposed to be present in the court on last October 9. The other two accused were present on the date but Dr. Yunus as he was in abroad could not appear the court. The judge of the 3rd labor court issued warrant of arrest against Dr. Yunus.

The case was filed on last July 3 by the dismissed employees of Grameen Communications. The court issued notice to this effect.

The dismissed employees are general secretary of workers union Abdus Salam, publicity secretary of the union Shah Alom and member Emranul Haque.
