Demanding the removal of the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Professor Farzana Islam agitating students and the teachers of JU have seized the residence of VC. On the other hand the university administration has posted the employees of university in front of VC’s residence to guard it.
On Monday (Nov.4) evening from the VC removal dais an agitating procession chanting various slogans ‘ghreroad’ the residence of Professor Farzana Islam. At this time the pro-VC teachers, officers and the employees formed four tier protection walls around the VC’s residence. But when the night was becoming deep the number of teachers and officers started lowering while the number of employees started rising.
An employee of Shahid Rafiq Zabbar hall on condition of anonymity told barta24.com that Sir has directed us to guard the residence of VC as the agitators have seized the residence. We will leave when ordered.
Another employee of Jahanara Imam hall on condition of not to be named told barta24.com that he along with many from Employees Union have been told to come here. Food and music have been arranged here and we are enjoying it.
The agitating students and teachers of the university alleged that the administration is making the campus unstable by bringing the employees of different halls.
Spokesman of the JU anti-VC movement Professor Raihan Rine told barta24.com earlier we have never experienced such scenario in any movement. We can see that the corrupt VC is not only using the teachers even she is using the officers and employees to serve her personal interest. Earlier when we had announced to seize the VC’s residence she has made the arrangements of food and lodging within her residence. She is only doing all these to perpetuate in the post and to make the agitators and university administration head to head.
One of organizers and Chattra Front(Marxist) sangsad president, Mahathir Mohammad told barta24.com that it is the demonstration of the autocratic mentality of the university administration. The VC cannot use the employees salaried by the government and cannot use for her own interests. This is against morality and illegal.
President of the JU provosts committee and a teacher of Government & Politics department Professor Bashir Ahmed told barta24.com that the employees are the part of the university family and moreover they did not come in office time. So they can come if the VC desires. Moreover they are against any indiscipline and in favor of development of the university, so there is nothing wrong in it.
The agitators have finally ‘gheroad’ the VC’s residence on the 10th day of their movement and on the 8th day of their total strike.
