Visiting US Assistant secretary for South Asia Alice Wells requested to send trial documents of Rashed Chowdhury, the killer of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the USA so that her government can examine the Bangladesh government’s demand of getting back Rashed Chowdhury.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today urged the US government to send back Rahsed Chowdhury, a fugitive killer of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who is now staying in the USA under political asylum.
“I told her (visiting US acting assistant secretary) that we want killer Rashed Chowdhury back”, he told newsmen after a meeting with the visiting USA’s acting Assistant Secretary for south and central Asian affairs Alice Wells at foreign ministry on Tuesday(Oct.5) evening.
Momen said Bangladesh wants to bring back all fugitive self-confessed killers of Bangabandhu to establish the rule of law and good governance.
Bangladesh government made global appeals in bilateral regional and international forums to send back Bangabandhu’s six fugitive killers, of them Rashed Chwowdhury has been traced living in the USA while Noor Chowdhury in Canada.
Foreign Minister Momen said that he had a detailed discussion with Alice on Rohingya issue who assured that USA is always beside Bangladesh on Rohingya crisis. Momen mentioned that in recent days in Asean India, China and Antonio Guetress strongly told Myanmar to get the Rohingya problem solved.
Momen said that Alice showed keen interest in investing in Bangladesh particularly in Infrastructure and energy sectors. However Bangladesh requested for financial assistance for improvement of Dhaka- Chattogram highway. However, the visiting acting Assistant secretary asked Bangladesh whether we are worried about the role of China here.
Alice has come to Bangladesh on a three day visit for strengthening the bilateral relation with Bangladesh. She is also supposed to meet Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and an adviser to Prime Minister.
