Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan has said the locomotive master of Turna Nishitha train is responsible for the Brahmanbaria train collision, which claimed at least 17 lives and injured 74 others.
“The accident occurred as Turna Nishitha locomotive master violated signal. Three committees have been formed to probe the accident. But it seems primarily that the locomotive master is responsible for the crash,” he said on Tuesday (Nov 12).
The minister was talking to reporters after visiting the accident site at Kasba in Brahmanbaria district on Tuesday (Nov 12).
Dhaka-bound Turna Nishitha and Udayan Express bound for Chattogram collided around 3am on Tuesday near Mondobhagh Station under Kasba Upazila.
Minister Sujan announced that Railways Ministry will give Tk 100,000 and district administration Tk 25,000 to the family of the deceased each.
Bangladesh Railway authorities have already suspended Turna Nishitha’s locomotive master, his aide and a guard over the train collision.
