Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has expressed the hope that trial in BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case will be completed soon.

“I guess the charge sheet our investigation agency has submitted through police is flawless. We expect the trial in the case will be completed soon,” he said on Wednesday (Nov 13).

The minister was talking to reporters after attending a law and meeting on the celebration of the Victory Day, at the home ministry conference room at noon.

The Detective Branch of police submitted charge sheet against 25 students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in the case to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

To a question about the absconding accused, the home minister said efforts are on to arrest them. “There is no scope for them to flee the country. They’ve taken shelters somewhere in the country. We’ll be able to nab them.”

About the enforcement of the Road Transport Act-2018, he said the minister concerned has informed them that people are being aware of the new statute. “He will give us instruction about the effective enforcement of the law.”

The minister said people are rushing to Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) for updating their transport and driving licences as they are trying to comply with the new law.

To a question on the anti-corruption purge, he said the drive has not been stopped. “We’ve instructed the law enforcement agency to conduct drive based on specific information… The drive will continue.”
