A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking Tk 100 million in compensation to the family of Dhaka Residential Model School and College student Naimul Abrar over his death at a function of Prothom Alo newspaper.

Supreme Court lawyer Faizullah Faiz submitted the petition to the department concerned of the High Court on Thursday (Nov 14).

Earlier on Nov 3, the lawyer, on behalf of a former student of the institution, sent a legal notice to the publisher and editor of Prothom Alo and editor of Kishor Alo to pay compensation to Naimul’s family for his death.

The ninth-grader was electrocuted at the anniversary celebration of Kishor Alo, a periodical of the daily, on the premises of Dhaka Residential Model School and College on Nov 1.

The notice requested the secretaries to information, education and power ministries to take ‘special safety measures’ in holding such large functions at educational institutions.

The lawyer filed the writ petition as Prothom Alo and Kishor Alo did not reply to the notice.
