The government has said there are adequate stocks of salt at farmer, factory, wholesale and retail levels and advised the people not to be confused by any rumours about salt prices.

In a handout, Ministry of Industries said on Tuesday (Nov 19) that a quarter is trying to create instability in the salt market through spreading rumors for making a mint.

It said the country has stocks of 650,000 tonnes of salt, including 450,000 tonnes with farmers in Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram and 245,000 tonnes at mills, against country’s monthly consumption of around 100,000 tonnes.

“There are also stocks at dealer, wholesaler and retailer levels. Besides, salt harvesting season has begun this month. Salt from Kutubdia and Maheshkhali upazilas in Cox’s Bazar has already started reaching market,” the handout said.

Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has opened a control room at the instruction of the industries ministry to monitor salt-related matters.

Anyone can reach the control room through phone land number 02-9573505 and mobile phone number 01715223949.
