The busy Dhaka-Tangail highway worn a deserted look on Wednesday (Nov 20) as transport workers started observing strike from morning for the third day demanding amendment to new transport law.
Operation of public transports has remained halted on different routes to and from Tangail, much to the trouble for the passengers. Rail communication through Tangail, however, remains normal.
The government has enforced the Road Transport Act-2018 with harsher punishment provisions from Nov 1 but later kept it suspended for two weeks to give the stakeholders a space to be aware of the law.
Transport workers began the strike across the country to press amendment to the statute replacing the harsher punishment provisions with lenient ones.
