A record number of Bangladeshi students have gone to the United States of America (USA) for higher studies. The number of Bangladeshi students in 2018-19 academic sessions is now 8249. Bangladesh’s position among the states that sends students there is 20th.
The US embassy in Dhaka has disclosed the information in connection with the International Education Week (November 18-22) organized jointly by the Foreign Affairs and Education Affairs of the USA.
The ‘Open Doors Report’ of 2019 in the International Education Exchange has disclosed this information. This number is the highest so far studying in the USA. It is observed that it has increased by 10 percent than 2018. It has increased three times higher than the number of 2009.
Bangladesh is one of the countries that send larger number of students to the USA. Bangladesh is the only country among the top 25 countries whose growth increased to double digit after 2018. The growth of Bangladesh among the South Asian countries is the highest. 5278 students are studying at graduation level among the total 8249 Bangladeshi students studying in the USA which is 13.5 percent higher than 2017-18 academic sessions.
About 75 percent Bangladeshi students are studying in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects in the various Universities of the USA. Of them 40.4 percent in Engineering, 17.7 percent in Mathematics/ Computer Science and 15.3 percent in Physical Science or Life Science. While 7.8 percent are studying in Business / Management.
