Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has said the money earned through corruption can ensure enjoyment and luxury, but not the love of people.

She made the observation while addressing the seventh national congress of Awami Jubo League, an associate body of the ruling Awami League (AL), at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city on Saturday (Nov 23). Addressing the youth, the prime minister said, “You need to keep in mind that real happiness lies in sacrifice. The youth has to be away from drugs, terrorism and corruption.’

She urged them to do politics for the welfare of the country and the nation rising above personal gain and loss. “Those who do politics for the people become successful.’

Describing the youth as the biggest assets of the country, Sheikh Hasina said their talent, knowledge and wisdom have to be utilised for the development of the country.

‘You have to have ideology if you want to be politicians. You have to study the life of the Father of the Nation. Then you will know how to love the country, how to sacrifice life for the country,’ she said.

The prime minister urged the Jubo League leaders and activists to work for public welfare giving up extorting money. Earlier, she inaugurated the congress by hoisting the national flag, releasing pigeons and balloons in the morning.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Jubo League congress organising committee chief Chayan Islam and member secretary Harunur Rashid were present at the gathering, among others.

The second session of the congress will be held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in the afternoon where the new chairman and general secretary of the organisation will be elected.
