MPs demand expansion of MPO

Among the demands of people’s representatives ‘MPO inclusion of educational institutions’ is one those according to their election pledges. Meanwhile the government has already included many intuitions in MPO list. But still the MPs demand more institutions to be included in the MPO list. For that purpose the parliamentary standing committee on education has urged upon the government to include more institutions in MPO list after making necessary amendments to existing rules. 

The matter was discussed in a meeting of parliamentary standing committee on education ministry held on Sunday (Nov.24) in the Jatiyo Sangsad Bhavon.

It was informed in the meeting that a budget of Taka 865 crore was allotted for the new MPO in the current fiscal year (2019-20). In the current year 1658 institutions were included in the MPO scheme. For this purpose the annual expenditure has been estimated at Taka 456 crore 32 lakh 18 thousand. After this total expenditure more Taka 408 crore 67 lakh 81 thousand will remain still unspent. 

Standing committee members feel that in the current fiscal more institutions after proper scrutiny more fit institutions can be included in the MPO list. 

The standing committee meeting chaired by Afsarul Amin while it was attended among others by deputy minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury, Md. Abdul Quddus, Fazle Hossain Badsha, Md. Abdus Sobhan Mia and Mahi B Chowdhury.

Besides, the additional secretary of Education ministry, heads of various departments and officials of JS secretariat attended the meeting.
