Ancient rural games are on the verge of extinction

With the passage of time most of the rural games and sports are on the verge of extinction gradually being replaced by technological games. The traditional rural games ; Kut Kut, Gollachut, Ha du du, Dariabandha, Juta Churi, Rope game, Chengupanti and marble play are not seen now. Time has changed so Kurigram is not outside of the present and modern hemisphere of Bangladesh. The technological games are becoming popular day by day even in remote villages.

It is learnt that there was a huge rush of the villagers to enjoy conventional rural games. Now that rural game and spectators’ wave is simple a memory. Once upon a time the people of Kurigram knew that rural game is the main game. Now they are becoming almost addicted laptop, computer and mobile games.

Going to remote Molla para Charjatrapur of Kurigram Sadar upazilla it was seen that some children were playing badminton.

The badminton playing kids Aminul Islam, Jahid Hassan and Shafiqul informed that they usually play in the day time. There is no big filed in their village. Some elders and juniors play badminton. However, after harvesting of crops they will get big field for playing.

Local inhabitant Khaibor Bepary, 65 and Hasu Mondol, 55 informed that the games once they played are now on verge of extinction. The present day boys and girls do not play those traditional games.

Chairman of Country Games Association, Kurigram district unit Shaymol Kumar Bhowmik said, the games of our childhood days are now lost. However, efforts have started to bring back those games to present generation.
