ECNEC okays 6 projects involving Tk 73bn

Six projects, including one for expansion of Dhaka and west zone grid transmission system, involving Tk 73.12 billion have received go-ahead from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

The top economic policymaking body of the government approved the project at a meeting held at NEC conference room at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Tuesday (Nov 26) with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

After the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan said at a press briefing that of the total funds required for implementing the projects, the government will provide Tk 27.78 billion.

Tk 42.13 billion will come from overseas lenders while the agencies concerned will provide Tk 3.22 billion, he said.

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources will implement the ‘Dhaka and West Zone Grid Transmission Expansion System’.

The other projects approved in the ECNEC meeting are upgrading Monihari-Murali portion of the Palbari-Daratana-Monihari-Murai National Highway to four lanes; development of Bogura-Sariakandi district highway; construction of Ariarghat bridge on the Bangali river; making Magura-Narail regional highway strait; developing Feni (Masterpara)-Alokdia-Bhalukia-Lashkarhat-Chhhagalnaya (Shantirhat) highway; and construction of road from Natore road (RUET) to Rajshahi bypass road.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Planning Minister MA Mannan, Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque, Information Minister Hasan Mahmud, LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Health Minister Zahid Maleque, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim and Land Minister Saifuzzaman were present at the meeting.
