The verdict of Holy Artisan case at around 12 pm

The verdict of the barbarous terrorist attack in Holy Artisan restaurant of Gulshan on July 1 of 2016 might be announced around 12pm today (Wednesday).

Assistant Public Prosecutor(APP) of the concerned court Golam Sarwar Khan (Zakir) on Wednesday (Nov.27) has confirmed it to barta24.com.   

He said that the judge of the Special Anti-Terrorism Tribunal Md. Muzibur Rahman might announce the verdict today at around 12 pm. The verdict is being announced after 3 years 4 months after the incident.  

The accused of the case are – Rajib Gandhi, Mizanur Rahman alias Bara Mizan, Rakibul Hassan, Hatkata Sohel Mahfuz, Hadisur Rahman Sagar, Rashed Islam alias Abu Zarra, Shariful Islam alias Khaled and Mamunur Rashid alias Ripon.  

All eight accused will be brought to the court for announcing the verdict. It will be announced in their presence.

The tribunal took the deposition of 113 witnesses of the total 211 witnesses.

The militants had carried on the worst and barbarous attack on July 1, 2016 in the Holy Artisan Café killing 20 innocent people including 17 foreigners.  Of the foreigners 9 were Italians, 7 Japanese and one Indian. 

In the cowardice attack Assistant Commissioner of DB police Rabiul Islam and OC of Banani PS Salauddin Ahemd were also killed. 

Next the attackers were defused by ‘Operation Thunderbolt’ when 5 attackers were killed. In the raid the chief Chef of the restaurant Saiful Islam was also killed. Being grievously injured the assistant Chef Zakir Hossain succumbed to his injuries in Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

On July 4 of 2016 anti-terrorism cases was filed with Gulshan police station accusing unknown numbers of militants including the dead five. 

On July 23, 2018, Inspector of City Counter Terrorism unit Humayun Kabir submitted charge sheet in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate accusing 21 militants including alive eight militants.  The rest thirteen accused died in different times during the investigation of the case.
