Grandson of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahmna and son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Sajib Wajed Joy was made the no. one member of the Rangpur district Awami Laegue Committee was formed in the triennial council of the district unit. It may be mentioned here that Sajib Wajed Joy is the ICT Adviser to the Prime Minister.
The council, held at Town Hall auditorium here, elected acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed as its President and reelected its incumbent General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju to the same post with 71 member committee for three years.
Besides, the triennial council of Rangpur city unit of AL reelected its incumbent President Shafiur Rahman Shafi and incumbent General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal as the President and General Secretary respectively. AL Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak ceremonially announced names of newly elected Presidents and General Secretaries as per decision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after the contesting candidates for the four posts could not reach to a consensus for single candidature for each post.
There were six candidates for the post of President and seven candidates for the post of General Secretary of district AL while ten candidates were in the fray for the post of President and eleven candidates for the post of General Secretary of city AL.
However, later on AL joint secretary general at the instruction of the Prime Minister announced the committee.
District AL General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju said inclusion of Sajib Wazed Joy in the district AL committee would create enormous enthusiasm among people from all walks of life in Rangpur region.
The name of the full committee was disclosed to the journalists on Wednesday (Nov.27) night.
