Complaint boxes across city for men-women equality

Dhaka North Dhaka City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam has said complaint boxes will be installed across the capital through which people can make suggestions on men-women equality or drop relevant complaints.

While presiding over at an event at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Memorial Park in the capital’s Gulshan on Friday (Nov 29), he said Dhaka will be an example for the world if it can be a women-friendly city.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) organised the event titled “Dhaka is for all; men-women equality can prevent violence”.

The mayor said, “Though males get priority over females in our society, women are no more lagging behind men. We’re working for building an environment where men and women will work together and enjoy equal rights.”

He said the complaint boxes installed in the city will be opened once a month in presence of high officials, including police officers, councilors and mayors. “Identities of the complainants won’t be disclosed.”

Parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, IGP Javed Patwary, cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, lawmaker Aparajita Haque, Swedish Ambassador Charlotta Schlyter and Norway Ambassador Sidsel Bleken were present at the event.
