December 9 is an important day in the history of freedom struggle of Faridpur. On that day Kazi Salaluddin Nasim and his six co-fighters were martyred in the pitch battle with the retreating Pakistan army from Jashore. Besides, Salaluddin on that day Nowefel, Wahab, Mujibur, Adel and Sohrab.
While a Pakistani army jeep was passing by the side of Karimpur bridge on Faridpur- Khulna highway the valiant freedom fighters attacked the army jeep killed all of them. After half an hour of the incident a Pakistani convoy surrounded the group of 36 led by Salauddin Nasim.
A fierce fighting ensued causing enormous damage to the enemy forces. But the long drawn battle exhausted the ammunitions of the Mukti Bahini and as part of war strategy they took shelter in a house in Dhopa Danga Chandpur area.
Salauddin being injured took shelter on first floor made of wood of the house. The enemy force with fresh reinforcement attacked the house and set fire of the house where the injured freedom fighters took shelter. Salauddin Nasim, a 22 year old local Yasin college student embraced a heroic death being burnt alive.
On December 17, the burnt skeletons of the 7 valiant freedom fighters were brought to Faridpur and buried in Alipur graveyard.
December 9, just seven days before the final victory on Decmber 16, the battle of Karimpur full of velour and pride is an important event in the annals of the history of Liberation War.
