Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, granddaughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has been elected member of British Parliament for the third time in the row from the Labour Party.

In the latest general election held on Thursday (Dec 12), Tulip bagged 28,080 votes in Hampstead and Kilburn constituency in London while her nearest contestant Conservatives’ Johnny Luc got 13,892 votes.

Voting in 650 constituencies of British Parliament was held from morning to 10pm (local time) while announcement of the results began on Friday (Dec 13) morning.

The results show by Friday morning, the Conservatives secured 363 of the 650 seats in Parliament, well ahead of Labour's 203 seats. The Liberal Democrats got 11 seats and Scottish National Party 48 seats.

Tulip thanked voters and others concerned for electing her to Parliament once again.

In a tweet message, she said, “Thank you Hampstead & Kilburn for electing me once again. Thanks to all my volunteers & my family. But devastated by our national results - sorry to lose such talented MPs.”

Tulip has held the seat since 2015, when she won the polls securing 23,977 votes. In 2017, she was re-elected bagging 34,464 votes.

The second child of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Rehana and Dr Shafiq Siddiq, Tulip was born in London and joined Labour Party at only 16 years. Before being elected MP, she was the councillor of Camden.
