A special court in Dhaka has awarded death sentence to 10 people in a case filed over the murder of a medicine trader in Mymensingh’s Nandail upazila.
Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 delivered the judgment on Tuesday (Dec 24) noon. The court also acquitted seven accused.
The convicts are Ekhlas Uddin, Abul Kashem Fakir alias Bacchu, Kabir Mia, Abul Kashem alias Abu, Abul Kalam Azad, Chandan, Shukkur Ali, Badal Mia, Faruk Mia and Ruma Akter.
Nine of the convicts are in the custody while Faruk Mia has remained at large.
The body of medicine trader Mazharul Islam Paltan was found in his store at Shialdhara Bazar under Nandail on the night of Feb 28, 2007.
Nandail police station Officer-in-Charge Jasim Uddin pressed charges against 17 people on Jan 31, 2008 following a murder case filed by the victim’s sister Beauty Akter.
