Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said, the Election Commission wants to see the polls in the two Dhaka city corporations seriously.
He made the statement on Wednesday (Dec 25) while briefing the returning and assistant returning officers of Dhaka North and Dhaka South city corporation elections slated for Jan 30.
The CEC urged the election officers to carry out responsibilities with courage as all keep eye on the vote in Dhaka city polls.
“I believe you can perform your duty properly. Don’t show any weakness to any party, opinion and ideology. We want to see the election very seriously,” he said.
Nurul Huda said the Election Commission has decided to use electronic voting machines (EVM) in the city polls as the use of the devices was successful in the last national election.
Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam said the commission wants to conduct the city polls in a manner acceptable to all. Election Commissioners Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury and Begum Kabita Khanam and Commission Senior Secretary Md Alamgir also spoke at the briefing.
